As the field of news and media ever evolves, many municipalities have been faced with determining which news and media entities qualify for executive session attendance. With continual efforts in support of transparency, staff has conversed with other cities to develop a policy that provides guidance for those individuals who request executive session attendance. | |

If it pleases council, approve Resolution 20-23 Establishing Guidelines for Media Attendance at Executive Sessions. | |

| | | | | | | | | | BACKGROUND:
The current media landscape has evolved past print and telecast. Gone are the days in which individuals waited to read about news and community events with the receipt of the evening paper or watching the 6:00 pm newscast. The community is informed through varied means, including print, radio, television, digital mediums, and now social media. As such, the city's policies need to evolve which includes the development of a media policy. Resolution 20-23 helps to establish the city's media policy, including addressing those who have access to attend executive sessions. | |
